With today’s launch of International Museum Day 2018, it is clear that many of the objectives that the International Council of Museums have identified are very similar to what Vastari is trying to promote all year around.

The theme of the IMD2018 is Hyperconnectivity. “Hyperconnectivity is a term invented in 2001 to design the multiple means of communication we have today, such as face-to-face contact, email, instant messaging, telephone or the Internet. This global network of connections becomes each day more complex, diverse and integrated. In the hyperconnected world of today, museums join the trend,” says the International Council of Museums.

There is a reason why Vastari’s slogan has always been “Exhibitions, Connected”. Our technology is all about making sure that those who have spaces, content, ideas and innovations can connect internationally. We saw a museum world relying on offline connections and serendipity, and decided to use technology to provide a data-drive approach to matchmaking.

Our company is also very adamant in promoting connections that are international, that do not favour one point of view. ICOM writes that “these past years we have witnessed the birth of countless common projects organised by museums with the collaboration of minorities, indigenous peoples and local institutions.” Our team has noticed that many exhibitions are still exported to new markets, with few exhibitions from new markets coming to the Western institutions. Vastari believes that there are fundamental things that need to change in the way museums work and connect, to improve these collaborations and connections.

What is ICOM?
The International Council of Museums (ICOM) established International Museum Day in 1977 to increase public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society, and it has been steadily gaining momentum ever since.

What is International Museum Day?
In 2016, International Museum Day garnered record-breaking participation with more than 36,000 museums hosting events in some 156 countries.
